APPROACH

Commonly available candles have a priority in price, with maximum profit to bring the customer a cheap and perhaps even nice product. They represent something that quickly attracts buyers. Our idea is to no longer create products that are cheap, low-quality and harmful. For this reason, we never use paraffin, made from petroleum, which is most often used in the production of conventional candles. We use exclusively natural vegetable waxes, such as soy, coconut or rapeseed. We have replaced artificial wicks with wicks made from organic cotton or rosewood. Instead of synthetic fragrances, we only use essential oils and natural fragrances produced by maceration of herbs, flowers or plants. With SO.SLOW candles, you can be sure that you are not burning a petroleum product in your home that releases toxic substances into the air similar to those produced by smoking. We do not want to make money on something that ultimately harms the customer.

HANDMADE AND LOCAL PRODUCTION

The name SO.SLOW carries the meaning of our values and expectations for our brand. We have been making our products slowly from the beginning. Slowly in the sense of slow, more sustainable production and manufacturing processes. We glue the wick, pour the wax and stick the labels on each candle by hand. Every candle passes through our hands during production, which is also why our products are of the highest possible quality. All production takes place in our small and cozy studio in Bratislava. 

We value building strong and valuable partnerships, whether with other brands or creators. We believe that collaboration is the key to innovation and quality products that enrich our offering while bringing us new perspectives and inspiration. By joining forces with our community, we can create unique and interesting products, while supporting each other.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is a core feature of SO.SLOW. Our goal is to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible. Our approach goes far beyond the choice of packaging and labels – it means making ethical decisions when sourcing and manufacturing our products. We strive to source our raw materials from more sustainable and local sources as much as possible, and from suppliers who also care about the “slow” and ethical approach to doing business. These steps are extremely important to us, and even though we realize that we are still far from perfect, we are constantly trying to improve and find new, more sustainable solutions.

Part of our philosophy is to show that the life of products does not end with their use. As part of our recycling program, product packaging is returnable - more information on how to do this can be found here. You can also give them a second life yourself. Some of our containers are intentionally designed to be reused as glasses or mugs. Our cotton bags, which most of our candles come in, are ideal for small items, for zero waste shopping or for storing small snacks.
